What is salt?

Salt is a mineral compound with the primary component of NaCl (Sodium Chlorides); NaCl makes up about 99% of salt. People likes to eat salt that has iodine in it in order to prevent hypertension and other diseases. The natural form of salt is a crystalline mineral that is called rock salt.
Where does salt come from?
For the most parts, salt is used as a kind of flavoring material in the process of cooking or production of food products. cheese, olive, ham, even fish and eggs contains different amount of salt in them.
What does salt do in the human body?
Salt controls many functions of human body. It helps to balance the acid and base, retains water, spurs muscle contractions. It is also essential to the process of digestion and absorption. The over-ingestion and the lack of salt all can cause problems and diseases and would affect the normal functioning of human body.
How is salt processed?
Unlike fats and proteins, mineral salt can be directly absorbed by human body without being digested. Salt in food would be absorbed in the small intestines just like some other nutrients.
